  • Lip blushing pre-care for individuals prone to cold sores

If you are considering lip blushing and have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex virus - HSV-1), it's crucial to take specific precautions to prevent an outbreak after the procedure. Lip blushing can trigger cold sore outbreaks in individuals who carry the virus, even if it's currently dormant.

  • Here are some key recommendations for pre-care:

    1. Antiviral medication is crucial: Consult your doctor or dentist to obtain a prescription for an antiviral medication like Valtrex, Zovirax, or Famvir. It is generally recommended to start taking the medication a few days before your lip blushing appointment and continue for several days after the procedure, following your doctor's specific instructions for duration.

    2. Moisturize lips diligently: For at least a week leading up to the appointment, exfoliate your lips gently and keep them well-hydrated with a good lip balm. This helps to ensure a smooth, even application of the pigment and better healing.

    3. Avoid blood thinners: Stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils, vitamin E, niacin, and excessive alcohol at least 48 hours before and after your procedure, as these can increase bleeding and affect the results.

    4. No lip fillers: If you have had lip fillers, allow at least 4 weeks for them to heal completely before getting lip blushing.

    5. No excessive sun exposure: Avoid tanning or prolonged sun exposure for at least one week before the procedure.

    Why is this important?

    • Potential for outbreak: The trauma to the lips during the lip blushing procedure can reactivate the dormant HSV-1 virus, causing a cold sore outbreak.

    • Healing complications: Cold sores can significantly disrupt the healing process, leading to uneven pigment distribution, scarring, and an unsatisfactory outcome.

    • Infection risk: Open sores from an outbreak can increase the risk of infection after the procedure.

Important note: If you have an active cold sore outbreak, reschedule your lip blushing appointment until the area is completely healed.

By following these pre-care instructions and consulting with your doctor or dentist, you can significantly reduce the risk of complications and achieve the best possible results from your lip blushing procedure.

AFTER CARE

The most important thing that goes into a successful microblading/permanent makeup procedure is how well the client follows the aftercare procedure. You want to make sure to keep the area moist with Aquaphor, all day long 24/7 for at least 10 days. This will allow the color to set in and avoid oxygen from hitting your brows and changing the color while it is setting in.

DO NOT WASH THE PROCEDURE FOR 24-48 HOURS!

Avoid for 10 days: Makeup (on procedure area), Extreme Sweating, Swimming, Tanning, Hot Sauna, and Laser/Chemical/Botox Treatments.

AFTER YOUR

APPOINTMENT

  • The day of the treatment: Absorb

Gently blot the area with a clean Paper towel to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every few minutes for the full day until oozing has stopped.  Removing this fluid prevents hardening of the lymph.
    Aquaphor Is Your Best Friend

  • Use a cotton swab to apply Aquaphor Ointment throughout the day for 2-4 weeks (the area should never be dry).

  • For the first Day right after the procedure, pat the procedure area with a paper towel every 30 minutes to remove excess blood/fluid.

  • Do not touch the procedure are with your fingers as they may have bacteria on them and create an infection.

  • We suggest Aquaphor because it tends to not cause inflammation, but if you are allergic, Vaseline will do just fine.

  • Always use a “total sun block” sunscreen until the area has fully healed to prevent future fading of pigment color.

  • Do not use products that contain AHA’s on the procedure area as they will fade the color (Example: Glycolic, Lactic Acids)

  • Additional Instructions For Lips

  • Ice your lips every 30 minutes on the day of the procedure to prevent bruising & swelling.

  • Avoid for 1 day: tooth paste and hot foods.

  • Avoid for 3 days: teeth whiteners, spicy food/drinks, lemon, salt, and vinegar. Use a straw for the following: coffee, wine, and any drinks that will stain. Wear a hat to shield the area from the sun when you go outside.

    Additional Instructions For Eyeliner

  • Ice your eyes every 30 minutes on the day of the procedure to prevent bruising & swelling.
